In line with the lites.asia goal of facilitating communication between stakeholders on important lighting issues, the Australian Government have asked us to highlight to lites.asia members the draft of IEC 60969 standard for the measurement of performance of CFLs currently being developed by TC34. We understand that comments on a revised addition of the standard will be discussed at the IEC lighting meeting being held in Beijing on Monday 24th September 2012.
This revision of the standard contains some important changes, for example a proposed revision to the specification of compliance with declared lamp lifetime. As many regional standards bodies and regulators may wish to harmonise their local requirements to be in line with IEC 60969 and thus facilitate international trade and consistency in the promotion of efficient lighting, the Australian Government feel it is important that stakeholders make their national committees aware of the proposed revisions to the standard and to review as appropriate.
It is also worth noting that at the same meeting in Beijing, the IEC committee will be reviewing proposals from the Australian representatives to consider work on the development of an IEC technical specification defining tiers of performance for CFLs.
