The United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) is the newly constituted UN high-level platform for decision making on the environment that is tasked to chart a new course in the way the international community addresses environmental sustainability challenges.
The Assembly begins today in Nairobi, Kenya and runs until 27 June 2014. Achim Steiner, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and UN Under-Secretary-General, has released a specific message for the Asia Pacific region in advance of the event. In his message, Mr. Steiner discusses the opportunities that the UNEA offers for the region to bring their experience to the attention of the international community and the role that the region can play in shaping the global environmental agenda.
