We are pleased to introduce our new newsletter which is designed to keep lites.asia members up-to-date with news from around the network.
lites.asia expansion
Although the lites.asia network has been running for some time, thanks to the support of the Australian Government, the activities of the network are being expanded.
The original aims of lites.asia remain the same. Namely:
- To provide a forum where regional policy makers can share information on the development and implementation of lighting efficiency policies.
- To enable cooperation on standards and labelling development and enforcement.
- To assist regional involvement in the development of standards by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
The expanded activities to support these aims will include:
- Twice-yearly meetings of regional policy makers to exchange information and develop regional actions.
- On-line webinars following each IEC lighting meeting to update members on outcomes of the meeting and plans for the future.
- An updated website giving more information on the current status of standards development at the IEC and within individual countries in the region.
- This new monthly newsletter which will give the latest information on lighting standards within the region and often a detailed review of current lighting policies within one of the participating countries.
lites.asia achievements so far
lites.asia has already had a number of successes from which we are building:
- Regional participation in the IEC meetings has expanded with the Philippines and China now attendees at meetings, and with increasing contributions from India, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.
- Development of a draft technical paper on CFL performance parameters which is in the process of being submitted to the IEC.
- Development of draft consumer guidelines for LED lighting.
- Preparation of a draft LED ‘Tropical Standard’ encompassing factors of particular concern to tropical economies, such as operational temperature range, voltage fluctuations and corrosion.
- Exploration of a mechanism for sharing lamp testing information for certification and compliance.
- Survey of testing laboratory testing capacity in member countries and exploration of willingness to share capacity and experience.
