The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) en.lighten initiative and lites.asia hosted a free webinar on Thursday, 9 April 2015.
For any standards and labelling programme to be successful, suppliers have to understand what products they are allowed to manufacture, import or sell; what product and packaging markings and labelling may be required; and whether products need additional declarations/compliance actions. Similarly, wholesalers and retailers must be aware of limitations on sales of products and the meaning of any labelling to enable effective communication with customers. Thus effective communication with, and engagement of, the supply chain is critical.
Often official notifications, centralised launches and national media coverage are used to inform these stakeholders of requirements. However, there are alternative approaches that may enhance the engagement of these critical stakeholders and enhance market knowledge for the policy maker. This webinar investigated some of these complementary strategies and tools and presented a framework through which communication programmes can be developed and delivered to best suit local culture and practice.
The webinar was presented by independent expert, Stuart Jeffcott, and UNEP consultant, Steve Coyne.
